Hi, my name is Irene

My yoga journey started almost thirty years ago, after a personal loss that compelled me to try and understand how chronic illness develops in a seemingly healthy person. In my quest, I discovered information that revealed the relationship of our lifestyle, thought patterns and attitudes with our health and wellbeing. I was intrigued by articles that spoke about the positive impact of yoga and meditation. I was young and healthy, working hard in my corporate job and started thinking about how I wanted to age. This is what led me to my first yoga class in 1998.

I was immediately drawn to the physicality of yoga asana which I saw as an antidote to the long hours spent sitting at my desk job. Some two decades later I took the plunge into yoga teacher training with International Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA), gaining a 460 hour Diploma of Yoga Teaching. Here I was introduced to the breadth of yoga practice and theory and became keenly interested in philosophy and pranayama. I continue to take courses that further develop my personal practice, knowledge and teaching skills.

In 2021, I commenced teaching alongside my full time corporate job and by 2024 I felt ready to transition to teaching yoga full time. My teaching experience to-date includes teaching in community centres, boutique yoga studios, gyms, private classes, schools, universities and a hospital. Teaching students across age groups and varying abilities has enriched my capacity to adapt and modify practices to match the needs of my students. As a teacher, my overall aim is to help people find awareness of how they move and interact with the world and find steadiness and ease, both on and off the mat.
